Explore Flanders Where history has left its mark

Follow in the footsteps of the Second World War through the authentic landscapes of Terre de Flandre. In partnership with local associations and the Fédération Française de Randonnée Pédestre, the Tourist Office has designed a series of four remembrance trails, combining historical discovery and nature walks.

The four guidebooks invite you to explore :

  • Esquelbecq, Ledringhem and Wormhout, focusing on the events of 28 May 1940, in connection with Operation DYNAMO
  • The Bergues – Quaëdypre – Socx triangle, in the footsteps of the fighting and military remains
  • The Hondschoote area, also marked by the dark hours of 1940.
  • Thereare ten or so communes for which the topographical guide recalls the main events of the Second World War.

  • Where can I get my guidebooks?

    Price: €2

    The brochures are trilingual (French, English and Dutch). They are available from Terre de Flandre Tourisme in hard copy, except for the last one which is only available in digital format:

  • Can you do the tours by bike?

    Yes, all the routes are suitable for walking and cycling. The 1st route is also accessible by car.

  • Who can make these tours?

    These trails are accessible to everyone, whether you’re an experienced walker, a family enthusiast or a history buff. The routes are signposted in blue. However, they may contain information that could upset the sensibilities of younger visitors, particularly guide #1.
