The Giants of Flanders Guardians of our traditions

Dédé l’Archer, l’Électeur de Lamartine, le Roi des Mitrons, Mme Bintje, Gomez, Jean Patate… behind their imposing silhouettes, the whole of the Flemish soul comes to life.

In the Land of Flanders, the giants are more than just festive figures: they embody the memory and identity of a people attached to its roots. Several metres high, carried by the strength and passion of the local people, they enliven processions and fairs in a joyous and convivial atmosphere. Each giant tells a story: Dédé l’Archer, skilful and proud, l’Électeur de Lamartine, witness to local political life, or Jean Patate, symbol of Flemish generosity.

True living emblems, they bring young and old together around a unique tradition listed as intangible heritage by UNESCO, where folklore and festivities meet in a spirit of sharing.
