Bubbles of characterMy visit to the Brasserie Thiriez in Esquelbecq
Esquelbecq, with its charming little streets and typical Flemish atmosphere, has plenty of surprises in store. But the one I won’t forget in a hurry is my visit to the Brasserie Thiriez, an artisanal nugget nestling in the heart of the village.
As soon as I arrived, I was struck by the warm, bewitching smell of malt. The brewmaster welcomed me with passion and simplicity, ready to share the story of his brewery, which was born in an old family farmhouse. The place is both rustic and warm, and exudes authenticity.
The tour took me behind the scenes of the brewing process, from brewing to fermentation and bottling. Everything here is done with respect for tradition, but with a touch of daring that gives each beer its very own personality.
And then came the long-awaited moment of tasting. In moderation*, of course, I savoured some of the in-house creations. Blonde and amber beers, with floral or spicy aromas… A real palette of flavours, telling the story of the Flemish region with every sip.
What I liked, beyond the taste, was the atmosphere. I felt like I was in the home of a team of 8 hop-loving enthusiasts who were happy to share their world with you.
I left with a smile on my face, a few bottles under my arm and a real crush on this local brewery.
